Camp Guillermo Nakar, Lucena City – In a report to SOLCOM Chief, MGEN DELFIN N BANGIT from BGEN ROLAND M DETABALI, Commander 2nd Infantry Division, Philippine Army, and government troops recovered anew an M16 rifle, bandoleer with five loaded magazines for M16 and ten (10) rounds of ammo for shotgun.

80th Infantry Battalion Commander LTC Arnulfo Burgos said that he immediately sent out his troops in order to verify the veracity of the report of local peasant folks that there was an abandoned CT safe house at Sitio Kalumpit, Brgy Mananao, Paluan Occidental Mindoro. At about 5 o’clock in the morning of June 27 2008, the operating troops under LT Delos Reyes and LT Sablan recovered the aforementioned NPA war materials in an abandoned house, used by the guerillas.

This particular feat clearly manifested the warm support of the people to government security forces in the area and that CPP/NPA/NDF’s political clout among the populace in this particular area continues to diminish due to the intensive internal security operations conducted by government troops.

It can also be remembered that government troops were also able to discover an arms cache consisting of sixteen (16) high powered firearms at Barangay Talabaan, Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro at about 7:00 PM on 11 June 2008.

Magnitude 5 quake rocks Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines -- A magnitude 5 earthquake shook northern Mindoro island at 7:03 p.m. Friday, the US Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The inland quake struck 65 kilometers west of Calapan City at a depth of 67.5 kilometers.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
